Board considers Parole For Student Who Stabbed Teacher 63 Times

Updated: January 7, 2009
A former Parkview High School student is up for parole for the fourth time, meaning the teacher he stabbed 63 times in 1992 was back in front of a parole board yesterday. Former teacher Debbie Fulbright didn`t speak before the board about 29 year old Christopher Watkins, but she sat and listened while Pulaski County Prosecutor Larry Jegley read a letter she had written about the stabbing. Watkins was convicted of attempted murder in 1994 and sentenced to 30 years in prison, but he became eligible for parole in 2000 and has applied for it each year. Fulbright now walks with a cane and can`t teach anymore after losing half the blood in her body in the attack. She had disciplined the then 17 year old Watkins for talking in class, and when she was alone in the classroom, he came back and started stabbing her with a pocket knife. The state`s Post Prison Transfer Board hears Watkins` side of the parole case early next month.
