Helping the homeless

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Organizers of an event geared to help people who live on the streets hope to draw 1500 homeless and poor people Saturday to a park on the Arkansas River in North Little Rock. A variety of state, local and federal government agencies are being joined by businesses and nonprofit organizations to put on the event. The fair comes as the city of Little Rock is deciding on a plan to shut down about two dozen sites where homeless people have been living. The event Saturday is geared to help homeless people get some footing before they are run out of the informal camps. The riverfront event will offer health screenings, food, help for children and families, legal advice and other services. Volunteers will also try to find places to stay for those willing.
