Updated: January 7, 2009
The police chief in Van Buren has suspended one of his officers who federal agents say is involved in a scheme to smuggle steroids. Police Chief Kenneth Bell has not named the officer, citing the continuing investigation by the U-S Immigration and Customs Enforcement Department. Bell said customs agents informed him of the officer`s alleged involvement, and that he suspended the officer on September 14th. Bell says getting word was a shock, and compared it to being a parent who finds out one of his children is in trouble. The suspension is with pay. Bell said that once the federal probe is complete, the officer will have a hearing about his job status.
