Updated: January 7, 2009
A veterinarian says two horses have died in Ouachita County after testing positive for the eastern encephalitis disease. Veterinarian Jim Rocconi said the diagnosis on both animals has been confirmed by the Arkansas Livestock and Poultry lab. The horses came from the Harmony Grove area. A spokeswoman for the state Department of Health said no human cases of the disease have been reported in Arkansas. The disease cannot be transmitted from horses to humans but that humans are suscpetible to the mosquito-borne disease.
