Let's talk about the hot spot of the week -- Lake Maumelle.  The bass, the brimm, the crappie and the whites are hitting.
  • The bass -- hitting on jigs at secondary points
  • The whites -- head to the east side all the way to the restricted area, use an inline spinner
  • The brim -- five feet, use crickets
  • Crappie -- ten to 15 feet, use hair grubs
Lake Dardanelle's really good, too.  Use jigs in the grass and if you see some lilly pads up around the railroad tressles and stuff, use a frog.

Little Red River still really good right now. They caught an eight pound rainbow Tuesday. The water's generating about 11:00 on, so if you're a fly fisherman, daybreak to about 10:30 / 11:00; after that, you need a boat and catch a lot of trout.

During the year when we have the high currents going down south, they push the sand up shallow, making sand bars. Good news: bait gather up there certain times of the year. Right now, the temperatures have come down from 97 to about 88 - 86 degrees, bringing the bait to gather around the sand bars.

I've got two baits that really work well.  This is a regular crank bait, a 300 with a longer bill on it.  What I like to use is a little crank bait with a real short bill. It's going to run about two feet but what you want to do is run it up on those sand bars and it drops off.  The sand bars going to drop off and those fish are going to be sitting right there waiting on the bait to come down so they can eat.

Next week, we're going to talk about fishing in the lilly pads.  I hope you stay tuned.
