Red Cross Volunteers Aim for Hurricane Ivan

As the Gulf Coast braces for Ivan`s impact, the anticipation of it is building for volunteers, ready to help clean up after the storm. American Red Cross volunteers from all over the country have been in Little Rock all week preparing to go where they are needed. Crews loaded disaster relief trucks, Saturday, and left for Birmingham, Ala. Sunday morning. They`ll be ready to deploy immediately from there, after the storm`s impact. "A lot of anticipation, we`re getting forwarded to the area where we`re going to do the most good for the people there," said Al Filmore, a volunteer from Tacoma, Washington. "One of the reasing we`re staging in Birmingham is stay far enough away from a landfall area. You won`t want to move crews, equipment or supplies into the area of a potential landfall," explained Alan Gibson, from the American Red Cross. Ivan is the 3rd hurrican to strike the same area in the last month. After Hurricanes Charley and Frances, the Red Cross sheltered 283,000 victims, served 4.9 million meals, and spent $63 million. The group says those two disasters have tapped their relief funds. If you would like to help, you can all 800-HELP NOW.
