State sends out letters about late taxes by mistake

Updated: January 7, 2009
The Arkansas Revenue Division says it mistakenly mailed five thousand 785 letters telling tax payers that they owned penalties and interest for late payments. The department said these notices resulted from a file processing error made by the Revenue Division. It said an incorrect filing date was used by the Revenue Division during return processing resulting in the erroneous assessment of penalties and interest. The statement added that the problem had been corrected. The state discovered the error on September Third and sent letters to taxpayers who received the erroneous notices explaining the mistake. In June, the state mistakenly sent notices of late payment to eleven hundred 75 individual tax filers. The same reason for the mistake was cited.
