President Clinton Out Of Surgery : Doing Well

A spokeswoman for former President Bill Clinton says his heart bypass surgery was successful and he is resting comfortably in a New York hospital. Clinton has been at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia in upper Manhattan since checking in Friday. The hospital`s chief of cardiothoracic surgery Doctor Craig Smith led the surgical team. The office of the former president released a statement saying he came through the surgery OK. Clinton`s medical team plans to explain the procedure and Clinton`s health at about Three o`clock central time in a news conference in New York. The 58-year-old former president and Arkansas governor has been joined at the hospital by his wife, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, and his daughter, Chelsea. Clinton also had a 90-minute conversation with Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry on Saturday, advising him to concentrate on the economy and move away from his military service in Vietnam.
