Updated: January 7, 2009
Former President Clinton will undergo heart bypass surgery after complaining of mild chest pain and shortness of breath. That word comes in a statement from his office. It says Clinton is being admitted to New York Presbyterian Hospital after tests today revealed the need for surgery. One Democratic official said an angiogram revealed "significant blockage." Clinton has canceled a two-day trip across upstate New York with his wife, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. The statement said the senator and the couple`s daughter, Chelsea, will be with the former president, who turned 58 last month. In Little Rock, Arkansas, Clinton`s mother-in-law said he had called her to tell her about his chest pains. Dorothy Rodham said he "sounded wonderful as usual and very upbeat." There`s no word on when the surgery will take place.
