Myeloma Patients Celebrate UAMS Care

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
More than 100 myeloma patients and their caregivers held what seemed like a family reunion at the Arkansas Cancer Research Center today. It was a special occasion a celebration of an unprecedented 18 million dollar federal grant to continue some of the world`s leading research on the rare bone marrow cancer. But the hectic scene in the Myeloma Institute waiting room was nothing out of the ordinary. The patients and family members are used to traveling from across the country and overseas to Little Rock to receive the best care. Some, like Doctor Michael Goldman of Northbrook, Illinois, are in the medical field and know that Doctor Bart Barlogie`s program in Little Rock joins programs in Boston and Houston as the best in the world. Others, like Patricia Comming of Gainsville, Florida, or Norma Jean Tharp of Munfordville, Kentucky, or Mustafa Cinar of Istanbul, Turkey, find out from their local doctors that Barlogie`s team is the best. Then there`s Louis Lamb of Little Rock, who often tells people, quote "I`m unlucky to have this terrible disease, but I`m lucky enough to live in Little Rock."
