U of A Announces New Degree

The University of Arkansas announced
today that it is now offering a biomedical engineering master`s
degree through its College of Engineering.
Undergraduate students previously could choose a biomedical
engineering emphasis and according to the university it proved to
be popular, with 35 students enrolling in its first two years.
Biomedical engineers develop artifical organs, prosthetic
devices, artifical skin and high-resolution imaging systems that
detect disease. They also use computers to analyze blood, use
lasers for corrective eye surgery and create automated insulin
injections.
U.S. Department of Labor statistics show that the number of jobs
in the biomedical engineering field is expected to grow 31 point
four percent through 2010.
