USS Razorback Officially Arrives Sunday

Updated: January 7, 2009
North Little Rock city leaders say a celebration to welcome the USS Razorback submarine to town will be this Sunday. The submarine made a seven thousand mile trip to Arkansas from Turkey. Mayor Patrick Hays said the celebration will include the sub`s last U-S commander and both of Arkansas` U-S Senators. The submarine, first used during World War Two, is the last operational submarine that witnessed the formal end of the war, when Japan surrendered at Tokyo Bay. The U-S Navy decommissioned the sub in 1970, and it was then used by the Turkish Navy for 30 years. North Little Rock bought the submarine and has plans to feature it in the planned Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum.
