Updated: January 7, 2009
The Arkansas Farm Bureau Federation today announced its endorsement of a proposed constitutional amendment to define marriage as between a man and a woman. The amendment is to appear on the state`s ballot in November. The Secretary of State`s office verified almost 96,000 signatures of registered voters on petitions to put the proposal on the ballot. Arkansas Farm Bureau president Stanley Reed says the group believes it`s important to support the proposed amendment because family values are important to its membership. Reed said the rulings of activist judges make the proposal necessary. Arkansas Farm Bureau includes more than 235,000 families in the state. The nonprofit organization aims to improve farm and rural life.
