Updated: January 7, 2009
No doubt many kids are little taller this year, but they weren`t the only things growing. Some Little Rock schools have larger enrollments this year, compared to last. The principal at Otter Creek Elementary says she has 60 new students this year. They have added a couple of extra classes for pre-kindergarten and 2nd grade, plus hired some new teachers. "The Otter Creek community has grown a great deal, the subdivision has grown and then there`s an additional apartment complex that`s gone in out here," said Principal Janis Tucker. The new Wakefiled Elementary also opened today, after a fire destroyed the old building two years ago. Principal Les Taylor says he has 363 students registered, this year and expects about 100 more. Last year`s enrollment was 347. Other schools with higher enrollments include Fulbright, Central High and Terry Elementary. Stephens Elementary School receives students that are sent from other school already full. Little Rock School District had 25,000 students last year. The district says after 10 days of class, it should have a final enrollment number, and know whether or not enrollment has increased district-wide.
