Huckabee Sees More Economic Development For Arkansas

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Governor Mike Huckabee says he expects pretty major things in economic development to occur in Arkansas within the year. But the governor warns Arkansas officials must remain quiet to avoid scaring off companies that are considering major projects. Marion in eastern Arkansas has been the epicenter of the state`s recruitment efforts since Hino Corporation of Japan announced plans to build an auto parts plant there. The company, which is 51 percent owned by Toyota, is still considering a truck manufacturing plant on the site. Meanwhile, an even bigger site next door is still up for grabs. All future project negotiations may depend on whether Amendment 2 to the state constitution passes in November. The amendment was proposed to give incentives to companies willing to spend at least 500 million dollars and create 500 new jobs in the state.
