Updated: January 7, 2009
A planned short stint in the Air Force after high school turned into 15 years and a poster boy slot for Hot Springs native Mike West. West, a technical sergeant, is featured on promotional poster and the US Air Force`s Web site. West is stationed at Hurlburt Field, Florida. He is featured under the heading "Ready for Anything". He said he has seen active duty all over the world, including a recent stint in Afghanistan. He is part of an Air Force promotional team that skydives into professional sporting events. West`s original plan was to join the Air Force for a short while after high school, but 15 years later he`s still an airman after training in scuba diving, survival schools, air traffic control simulation and weapons.
