Updated: January 7, 2009
Officials at UAMS have approved 168-point-eight million dollar plan to upgrade patient rooms and facilities at the hospital Trustees approved the plan yesterday after Chancellor I. Dodd Wilson said that without the upgrades the hospital`s future is bleak. Wilson said patients deserve better, describing 50-year-old patient rooms with worn pipes and wiring and small double-occupancy areas. About 145 million dollars will be used to build an addition to the medical center. Thirteen million will replace a student residence hall and ten million dollars to add a one thousand space parking deck. The project would increase the hospital`s capacity from 277 beds to 375. Plans are still up in the air as to what to do with the older buildings once the new facilities are built.
