Pine Bluff Burglary Rate Goes Up

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Statistics from Pine Bluff show that the burglary rate at businesses has jumped more than 101 percent in the first five months of 2004. Burglaries at residence have gone up 63 percent. Sergeant Bob Rawlinson said some of the increase is because budget crunches have put fewer officers on the street. Rawlinson said officers can`t put special teams to watch neighborhoods during the day like they did before. Rawlinson said shortages have forced officers formerly assigned to specialized units to be reassigned to patrol. He also said bike patrol has been cut over 50 percent. Last year 69 business burglaries were reported from January through May. This year there were 139. House burglaries increased from 235 in 2003 to 383 this year.
