Hospitals are in the business of saving lives, but Saturday, White County Medical Center gave more from the heart. Harding University hosted the hospital`s 8th Annual Day of Caring. Medical staff and volunteers provided medical, dental and eye exams for the needy or uninsured. Diane Gaskin, of Searcy, came because she couldn`t afford to see a doctor and is waiting to hear from the government about disability insurance. "My husband has cancer and I`ve been asthmatic all my live. So, I needed to see a doctor to check out my lungs and stuff," she explained. "As the growing insurance prices increase more people are uninsured and underinsured, we find this is oftentimes the only time they get physical exmas during the year," said Cassandra Feltrop, White County Medical Center. The staff say they helped nearly 1,800 people Saturday. Businesses also donated school supplies and food for the Day of Caring.
