Former Newport Superintendent Gets New Job

The superintendent who resigned from Newport School District after he scuffled with a broadcaster has a new job as principal of Carlisle High School. Floyd Marshall began his new job Thursday. Marshall resigned as Newport superintendent in April. The board accepted his resignation after agreeing to buy out his contract for about 233-thousand dollars. Marshall was suspended with pay April Fifth after a scuffle with David Black, co-owner of a local cable access channel. The altercation occurred during a meeting between the superintendent and Newport media, in which school officials proposed barring media announcers from criticizing officials, coaches or players during athletic events.
