Huckabee speaks out about clemencies

Updated: January 7, 2009
Governor Huckabee spoke to the media today, one day after he announced changes to his policy on clemency. "As I really thought through it, I realized we could do things better and frankly should do things better." Huckabee says his decision to announce his reasoning behind future clemencies has nothing to do with outspoken prosecutors. "The loud voices you heard make it appear like there is this panic in the streets, people being let out everyday that shouldn`t be, that simply isn`t the case." The governor has granted clemency to 111 inmates since he took office, 26 of those were violent offenders.
