Tuning Out: Less People Watching the Political Conventions

What do cable reruns and baseball`s homerun derby have in common? Both scored better ratings than the Democratic National Convention. Viewers blame negative campaigns and scripted conventions for their lack of interest. The first night of the DNC received the lowest ratings in first night convention history. The networks have noticed the trend, scaling back coverage from 20 hours in 1976 down to three hours this year.
