The Labor Department reports the national unemployment rate in July was nine-point-one percent.
That's a tenth-of-a-percent drop from the previous month.
Employers added 117-thousand jobs last month.
Some analysts were expecting only about 85-thousand new jobs.
Stocks jumped in early trading on the news after a massive sell-off yesterday.
