OK Drivers Struck By Lightning On I-40

Updated: January 7, 2009
An Oklahoma family was struck by lightning while driving along Interstate 40 in Pulaski County. Bill Brown says he slowed down to 25 miles an hour during heavy rain when he heard a loud noise and saw smoke coming from his truck. All four family members fled the vehicle and within seconds, it burst into flames. Officials say a loose wire in back of the truck dragged along the ground, acting as a conductor for the lightning bolt. Firemen doused the vehicle with water and foam. The truck is now a total loss. The Browns rented a new vehicle to get back to Oklahoma.
