USS Razorback Getting A Lift

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The USS Razorback will get a lift to help it make its way up the Arkansas River to a permanent home in North Little Rock. The World War two era submarine`s voyage from Turkey ground to a halt when it was learned that the boat`s keel sits deeper than the river`s navigation channel. Officials now plan to float the sub up-river between a pair of barges. The vessel drafts about 14 feet. The Army Corps of Engineers guarantees the Arkansas River shipping channel is nine feet deep.. too shallow for the craft to make it to its destination. The submarine is to be the centerpiece of a planned maritime museum at North Little Rock on the north bank of the Arkansas River. The sub is currently docked at Rosedale, Mississippi.
