Renovations At The State Capitol Taking Longer Than Expected

Updated: January 7, 2009
Renovations at the state Capitol are taking longer than expected, but officials say the grounds will better resemble their original appearance when the work is complete. Crews are now scheduled to be finished in September with the $1.3 million project. They are restoring the Capitol`s three oldest monuments, refinishing the front steps and adding features for the handicapped. The Woodlane Street entrance will have lights and other features that restore it to its original appearance from when the Capitol was completed in 1915. The secretary of state`s office says that the start of the work was delayed because it took extra time to do research.
