By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
In the last three months three Benton police officers have been under investigation for drinking on the job, keeping drugs at the department and sexual assault. Now add domestic violence to the list. Patrolman Jay Stewart has been placed on administrative leave with pay following a Friday night incident at his Haskell home. The Benton Police department would not comment furthur on the incident. Chief Tommy Johnson in Haskell is. Though Stewart and his wife Priscilla signed waivers so no report would be filed that night, Chief Johnson had the investigator write a statement to him about the call. According to that statement, the Stewarts hadn`t been getting along for weeks. Both Jay and Priscilla were drinking that night. The investigator says he was told Priscilla was hit in the eye and knocked down by her husband while trying to stop him from leaving the house drunk with their daughter. While Priscilla Stewart has yet to come in to file a complaint with the prosecutor, but she has filed one with the Benton P.D. She did not want to comment on the matter today.
