Air Force Staff Sergeant Dustin W Peters was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart today during a private memorial service at the Little Rock Air Force Base. Officials said the medals were presented to his four-year-old son. About 350 people crowded into the base chapel for the service. Overflow mourners watched the service in the base conference center and the memorial was also broadcast on all base televisions. Peters died in Iraq last Sunday when the his convoy was hit by a homemade bomb. The 25-year-old airman was from El Dorado, Kansas, and had been stationed at the Little Rock Air Force Base. Peters had been with the base for almost four years and left for the Middle East in February for a 179 day tour. It was his second tour in Iraq.
