State`s Teacher Salary Ranking Should Improve

Arkansas education officials say steps taken
to improve the public school system could improve the state ranking
in teacher salaries from 44th in the nation.
Education Department director Ken James says the state has
already taken some dramatic steps.
A survey by the American Federation of Teachers was based on
salaries from 2002-2003. James says a $2.7 billion
investment by the state will bring further improvements.
The president of the Arkansas Education Association says school
districts have to use some of their new money to give teachers
raises if Arkansas wants to move up the salary list.
