Hispanics In Arkansas Face Language Problem

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
For Hispanic immigrants in Arkansas, language is the biggest obstacle to success. That was the conclusion of a panel of experts who met yesterday in Little Rock. In a forum sponsored by the nonprofit Winrock International, they looked at issues facing the state`s growing Hispanic community. About 175 health, education, social services and work-force training experts attended the event. The group said more agencies should employee translators to help Hispanics access services. The 2000 U.S. Census showed that more than nearly 90,000 Arkansans identified themselves as Hispanic.
