The son of Springdale pawnshop owner slain
in 1974 says he doesn`t understand Governor Mike Huckabee`s plan to
commute the life sentence of his father`s killer. Huckabee said
this week that he favored commuting the sentence of 47-year-old
Dennis Lewis to time served. Lewis was 17 when he shot and killed
J-J Cobb during a robbery. Cobb`s son, Dan Cobb of Springdale, says
he was under the mistaken impression Lewis would never get out of
prison.
The state parole board also reccommended clemency for Lewis. A
board spokeswoman says the family should have provided current
addresses so that they could have been notified of the hearing and
objected to Lewis` release.
