The Pine Bluff City Council will consider Tuesday whether the city should look into acquiring the assets of a private water company. United Water serves 19-thousand Pine Bluff residents. The company is proposing to increase its rates for all its customers. The rates would increase between two-point-one percent and 17
percent, depending on usage and meter size. A residential customer paying 25 dollars per month would see their bill increase about four dollars. Alderman Jack Foster plans to ask the Pine Bluff Wastewater Utility Commission to investigate acquiring the assets of United Water. The city currently earns 60-thousand dollars each year from
franchise fees.
