The state`s Board of Correction has given preliminary approval for Arkansas prison guards to get raises. Officials say the the raise would put the guards` pay in line with what other law-enforcement workers make. Arkansas Department of Corrections director Larry Norris made the request yesterday during more the two hours he spent outlining his department`s expected budget needs in fiscal 2006 and 2007 for the Arkansas Board of Corrections. Norris said the prison department, set to spend about 215 (m) million dollars this year, will need at least 60 (m) million more for the next two-years. The budget proposals will go to the governor and ultimately to the Legislature. Norris said pay increases for prison staff top his list.
