Jonesboro Airport Will Continue To Get Federal Funds

Airlines will continue to receive federal
subsidies to serve the Jonesboro airport.
Congressman Marion Berry`s office said today that the US
Department of Transportation had agreed to continue the funding
after tentatively canceling the per-passenger subsidies for Mesa
Airlines.
The Phoenix-based airline had been able to fly to Jonesboro
because of the federal aid. Berry spokesman Andrew Nannis said
transportation officials changed their minds when Berry, other
members of the Arkansas congressional delegation, Mesa Airlines and
Jonesboro airport leaders pressed them.
Last year, the federal government paid nearly $900,000
dollars for airline service in Jonesboro at a subsidy rate of 221
dollars per passenger.
