Updated: January 7, 2009
Lieutenant Colonel Steve Dozier will be the new director of the Arkansas State Police. In a ceremony today, he was also promoted to colonel. Dozier has been the deputy director since 2001 and officially replaces Colonel Don Melton at the helm of the state police. Dozier has been serving as interim director since Melton resigned in May. Dozier served as interim director once before, in 2001 when Colonel Tom Mars resigned, but he was passed over for the permanent post. Today, Huckabee called Dozier the "logical choice." He has been with the Arkansas State Police for 23 years.
