Classic Carousel Closer To Being Restored

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Restored components of the 80-year-old War Memorial Midway carousel returned from about 12 years of treatment in Siloam Springs. The Spillman over-the-jumps carousel had been a mainstay at the Little Rock Zoo for more than 50 years. All but four of the 40 wavy-maned pony figures have been restored. The finished ponies will have to be stored at the downtown Central Arkansas Library and a vacant store in University Mall. A group called Friends of the Carousel has raised more than one million dollars for the carousel. Last spring, Little Rock voters approved 200-thousand dollars for a cover for the carousel.
