AT&T Will Not Seek New Customers In Arkansas

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
A-T-and-T says it will stop selling local and long-distance to new residential customers in Arkansas and six other states. The company blames a court decision it says will result in higher prices to use its regional networks. The decision will not affect existing residential customers and A-T-and-T will continue to market its services to business or government customers. A court ruling overturned Federal Communications Commission rules requiring regional Bell companies to sell access to their networks at a discount. Because of that, A-T-and-T says its rates to the regional Bell companies for using their lines could go up as early as November. Along with Arkansas, A-T-and-T will stop marketing the residential services in Louisiana, Missouri, New Hampshire, Ohio, Tennessee and Washington. It says it`s evaluating its services in 39 other states as well.
