The state attorney general`s office says a federal report on the Conway Human Development Center draws
inaccurate conclusions.
The Justice Department`s report claimed the state facility provides grossly deficient health care that puts patients at risk of harm.
Attorney General Mike Beebe`s office has released its response -- a 35-page letter that takes issue with the Justice Department`s report.
The center serves more than 500 developmentally disabled individuals. The patients suffer from conditions including epilepsy, mental illnesses, autism, cerebral palsy and spina
bifida. The center is overseen jointly by the state Human Services Department and the state Board of Developmental Disabilities Services.
An investigation by the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department began last year and included several spring 2003 visits to the center.
