Governor Huckabee Praises Program For Diabetes

Updated: January 7, 2009
Governor Huckabee today lauded a new program that combines state and private efforts to help diabetes patients who receive Medicaid assistance. Huckabee says the program will improve the quality of life of the patients -- and it will save taxpayers money by reducing the need for some catastrophic medical care. The Arkansas Diabetes Control Program is getting funding by grants from Eli Lilly and Company. The program has added 12 diabetes education centers across the state. About one-thousand Medicaid patients use the free counseling now. Officials hope to put in education center in every Arkansas county, adding to the 33 centers now operating. The program is part of the state`s Healthy Arkansas initiative.
