Southern Baptists Back Away

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Arkansas` Southern Baptists are among millions who are no longer part of the Baptist World Alliance. Today at their convention`s meeting in Indiana, members voted to separate from that group because it`s taken on more liberal members in recent years. Some churches within the B-W-A support gay marriage and women becoming pastors. Southern Baptists do not. Convention delegate Pastor Mark Howell of Little Rock`s First Baptist Church says, "when you have other groups that have baptist in their name that support such, it`s not in our best interest to affiliate with people that we disagree with theologically." In leaving, Southern Baptists take away the B-W-A`s largest member body and a third of it`s income.
