Three state entities receive refunds from drug anti-trust

Attorney General Mike Beebe today presented three state entities with checks from the settlement of an
anti-trust action against a drug company.
Bristol-Myers Squibb Company awarded money to individual consumers and the state entities. The company settled a
class-action lawsuit that claimed it overcharged patients for the
prescription drug Taxol.
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences received the most money -- more than 540-thousand dollars. The Department of Human Services Division of Medical Services received about 175-thousand dollars for Medicaid costs.
The Arkansas Employee Benefits Division received almost 65-thousand dollars.
Bristol-Myers faced lawsuits after it filed new patents and lawsuits in an effort to keep cheaper generic brands from competing with Taxol.
