Governor Huckabee says findings from a study on how much Arkansas school children weigh is drawing attention from leaders across the country wanting to conduct similar surveys.
The report showed 40 percent of Arkansas students in grades K-through-12 are heavier than federal guidelines recommend. The findings were based on body-mass index calculations derived from students` height and weight. Those results are then analyzed considering age and gender.
Huckabee was in a conference in Virginia today, where he was being recognized for his efforts to promote healthy living. He said many people have complimented Arkansas on the study. He said they feel it`s on the cutting edge and appreciated what Arkansas has done to bring the problem to light.
