Trial Continues on Public Records Tampering Case in Dumas

Jurors in the public record tampering case against Dumas Mayor Clay Oldner have heard testimony about a 95-hundred dollar city payment to him. It`s Oldner`s second trial on the charge. He was convicted of two misdemeanors in October, but jurors deadlocked on the tampering. Wednesday, former city clerk Sherri Flippo said Oldner ordered her to create an invoice for 95-hundred dollars on June 14th, 1999, for floor covering in a new city complex. Prosecutors accuse Oldner of misusing city funds and of pocketing money the city paid his hardware store for the flooring and other items. The tampering charge stems from a September 2002 state audit that said Oldner apparently misused more than 30-thousand dollars from the city`s account. Legislative auditor Larry Hunter testified that Oldner took the 95-hundred dollar check to the Bank of Star City and received almost half in cash, then spent the rest paying bills.
