More drivers are choosing to leave the pump without paying for gas, police say. Hundreds of gas station have filed reports with Little Rock Police complaining about a sharp increase in drive-offs. Thousands of dollars went unpaid since April 1, says Sgt. Terry Hastings. "We`ve had a problem with gas drive-offs for some time," said Hastings. "I believe it`s going to become a greater problem." Gas thieves could lose their license for six months, spend a year in jail and be fined up to $1,000. Many stations are now enacting a pay-first policy to cut down on losses.
