breaking news
Local law enforcement have their eyes set on security at Riverfest. Because it happens on both sides of the river, it`s important for both police departments to be in sync.
"Our police departments work together, we have the ability to communicate with each other to make it accessible to get police anywhere in the entire Riverfest area," said Sgt. Jim Scott, North Little Rock Police.
And with more than 60,000 people wading eep into the fun, local police will be on the look out for anyone having too much of it.
Police will have officers on foot, horseback, motorcycle, cars and in boats on the river.
Expecting a bigger crowd than last year, North Little Rock Police are increasing the number of officer patrolling Riverfest.
"People can expect to see police officers anywhere visually throughout the park," said Scott.
And it`s that presence that should deter potential pickpockets or purse-snatchers.
"If people keep up with personal belongings, wallets, money, purses, that`ll take away that threat," said Sgt. Terry Hastings, Little Rock Police Department.
And when too much fun is no good, police say they`re ready to arrest anyone who has too much to drink and becomes too rowdy.
Little Rock police say they have the help of their new mobile command unit. It will help them dispatch officers faster to anywhere at Riverfest where an officer is needed.
Neither said is expecting any trouble this weekend, but if there are any problems, both say they`re ready.
A private security firm will also have guards at each gate.
Items not allowed inside the parks include coolers, video or audio recorders, skateboards, bicycles, rollerblades, and weapons. No pets are allowed except for service dogs.
Bags and backpacks are subject to search at the gates.
