Updated: January 7, 2009
In Maumelle, at least nine residents of an apartment complex were left without homes yesterday after a fire tore through the two-story building. The fire gutted about half of the complex` eight apartments. Several residents were evacuated from their apartments, but no one was injured. A Red Cross Disaster Team and managers of the apartment complex say they are helping displaced residents find clothing and shelter. Fire officials estimated the fire caused about 258-thousand dollars in damage. They did not know the cause of the blaze, but they believe it started on the second floor.
