Attorneys general from seven states, including Arkansas, are asking President Bush to call for an international investigation into the setting of gasoline prices. The seven states` top legal officers contending that their regional probes are not powerful enough to protect consumers. The attorneys general said they didn`t know if the high gas prices were a function of higher demand, lower supply or collusion. But they agreed that U-S Attorney General John Ashcroft must use the strength of the federal government to find any off-shore illegal activity. Arkansas Attorney General Mike Beebe said the idea of attorneys general banding together is a good way to protect the people of the various states. But he said that, even when they band together, they can`t pursue the kinds of things the federal government can.
