Sevier, Pope, Newton counties hand count ballots

Election workers in Sevier County had to hand count ballots until early this morning after discovering a programming problem with a vote-tabulating machine. The tabulating machine`s computer chip had been programmed with test ballots, which for an unknown reason did not match the actual ballots used Tuesday night. In Pope County, election officials finished re-counting ballots from 23 precincts by hand early this morning. Newton County workers also counted ballots by hand after high humidity caused some of the ballots to stick together when going through a vote-tabulating machine.
