The debate over a new Conway high school started
again last night. A consultant told the Conway School Board that
building a second high school would cost about 46 million
dollars plus another nearly five million for personnel. That
would increase taxes by 6.2 mills.
On the other hand, officials could add on to existing school
campuses. Right now Conway has two overcrowded campuses. One for
11th and 12th graders and another for 9th and 10th graders. The
district has a steady two percent enrollment growth.
Instead of building a new school, board members had proposed
spending about 18 million to renovate the campuses. They said
that should take care of growth for the next decade and cost tax
payers about four mills.
