Updated: January 7, 2009
The Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity at Southern Arkansas University was shut down yesterday after allegations that members beat a pledge so badly that he was in the hospital for eleven days. University officials sent a letter to the fraternity, stating that it is suspended indefinitely. The suspension must last at least five years and accuses the fraternity of violating the Magnolia university`s policy banning hazing. On Monday, a Mountain Home lawyer filed a lawsuit on behalf of 19-year-old pledge Ty Keith, claiming he was beaten severely enough that he had to have kidney dialysis and needs skin-graft surgery.
